Pool Washing Built for Shreveport

Shreveport’s long pool season — typically late April through early October with shoulder swims into November — means pool decks and pool surrounds get heavy use, heavy chlorine vapor, heavy sun, and heavy humidity all in the same six months. The result on most Shreveport pool decks is a familiar combination: faded concrete that used to be brighter, green algae lines along the cool-deck edge where standing water sits, mineral haze on the limestone or travertine coping, and slick spots forming on textured concrete that should never feel slippery. A proper pool wash addresses all four problems and a follow-up seal extends the deck’s life.

We work both around in-ground pools (the most common Shreveport setup) and above-ground installations. Around-the-pool work uses pool-safe chemistry that will not cross-contaminate the water — sodium hypochlorite is the same family as pool shock, but the surfactant blend in our wash chemistry is matched to concrete and travertine, not water clarity. We pre-cover the water, drain mid-wash if needed for our larger commercial pool clients, and post-rinse to factory clean before pulling the cover off.

Pool decks in South Highlands, Provenance, Spring Lake, and the older Pierremont and Broadmoor neighborhoods of Shreveport sit on a mix of stamped concrete, brushed concrete, travertine, and limestone coping. Each material takes a different chemistry pass and a different surface-cleaner pressure. Travertine especially needs a gentle, low-pressure approach because aggressive cleaning can erode the surface texture. We test the chemistry on a small patch first on every new pool account and adjust the concentration before doing the full deck.

What Shreveport Properties Need to Know

Real conditions on Caddo Parish surfaces and how we approach them.

Algae, Pitting, and Sealing Cycle

Untreated pool decks in Shreveport humidity can develop visible algae within 18 months and surface pitting (small pinholes from freeze-thaw and salt exposure) within 5 to 7 years on unsealed concrete. A wash-and-seal cycle every 3 to 4 years keeps the surface looking new and effectively triples the deck’s lifespan compared to no maintenance. Most pool deck repairs cost $4,000 to $12,000 — a much bigger number than recurring wash-and-seal.

Chemistry That Stays Out of the Water

We tarp every pool during chemistry application and rinse with hose water before pulling the tarp. Even small amounts of soap-blend cleaning agents in pool water cause foaming, pH swings, and chlorinator imbalance. Our process keeps the cleaning chemistry on the deck and out of the water, and we coordinate with your pool service if you want them to retest pH after our visit.

Travertine, Limestone, and Coping Care

Travertine and limestone need pH-neutral chemistry — acidic cleaners etch the surface and dull the natural matte finish. We use a pH-neutral travertine cleaner specifically for stone coping, applied with a soft-bristle pad rather than a surface cleaner where the stone is delicate. The wash takes longer than concrete but preserves the stone for decades.

Pool Washing Questions

How often should I wash my Shreveport pool deck?

Annually for the deck wash, every 3 to 4 years for the seal. Heavy summer parties or kid-traffic homes may want twice a year (spring + late summer) to keep the deck looking fresh. We can put your pool deck on the same annual route as house washing for a combined visit and combined rate.

Will the cleaning affect my pool water?

Not when we tarp properly. Every visit we tarp the pool surface, work around it, then rinse the deck and pull the tarp. Pool water stays untouched. Some clients prefer to drop chlorine the morning after our visit just as belt-and-suspenders, and we are happy to coordinate with their pool service if that helps.

Can you remove rust stains from sprinkler heads near the pool?

Yes. Iron sprinkler heads near pool decks leave rust marks that look orange or rust-red. Oxalic acid pre-treatment removes them. We are careful around landscape beds and apply the chemistry only on the deck surface so plant material stays unharmed.

What about above-ground pools?

Same wash, slightly different access. Above-ground pool decks are usually wood (cedar or treated pine) which we soft-wash rather than pressure-wash. The pool exterior wall (vinyl or steel) gets a gentle hand wash. Most above-ground pool washes finish in under two hours.

Can sealing make the deck slippery?

Acrylic sealer with the wet-look finish CAN make wet pool decks slippery, which is why we typically use a penetrating siloxane sealer on pool decks instead. The penetrating sealer waterproofs the concrete from the inside without changing the surface texture, so traction stays the same as bare concrete. Acrylic sealer is fine for driveways but not pool decks.

Do you do commercial pool decks (HOA, hospitality)?

Yes. We service HOA community pools, hotel pool decks, and hospitality pool surrounds across Shreveport-Bossier on quarterly or seasonal schedules. Commercial pool decks have higher chemistry exposure and usually need annual sealing rather than every 3 to 4 years. Insurance and after-hours scheduling are standard for commercial pool work.
